Mr. Jackson,
Dr. Colleen Hudak -Wise
Interim Director
On December 14. 2018. you :and I spoke about the situation that con had exceeded the limitations of your
pumping window date outlined ill) 01.11 %%'rite plan. According to s°our records, the last (late that you
humped s+.as October 10. 2018.
Although I did not have the occasion to visit your farm, I - unity ; 51 -3'5. after I Iurricane Florence- I did
visit many others, in close proximity to yours, that were also pumping on soy heans. I lie soybean s aricty
that v% is planted on your spray field ssas HBK 7523. svlhich is a mid to late maturity Group VII. Due to
the hot. dry weather conditions in August, leading up to llutricane I hnence. most of the soybean crop had
little, if any, beans on them. For most Ch'oup V soybeans, the rains from Florence came too Tate to help
those soybeans, bill the Group VI's and VIPs benefitted (loin these rains. Since the rain amounts were so
high during this, and other, rain event(s), it is highly likely that nutrients mere leached t}om many soils in
this area.
It is ins professional opinion that soybeans ofthis maturity group could. and vyould_ have benefitted Prom
additional 11AN at this stage of the season. This particular variety of soybean has a relative maturity of
October 26-30, meaning that in a normal growing season this soybean would have accumulated all the
carbohydrates possible. at which time the drying down process (kill begin. .A Group VII .oybean at this
stage of this season would be at R3-I2.5, the soybeans have small pods developing up to large pods with
developing beans. At this stage of growth. the nutrient needs of the plant are at its greatest for pool fill.
therefore additional nutrients would hake benefitted the crop.
This justification for pumping is for this event only. as long as it did not exceed available PAN. If 1 can
be offurther assistance please let me know.
