He spoke to Siemens who walked him through the flow meter's system and determined that 1 pulse was set at 100 gallons. At the known composite sampler setup, this means that the sampler was programmed to take 50 ml every 600 gallons, or approx. 45 litres of sample per 24 hour period. Mr. Horner said he programmed it to take 115 mL every 113 pulses, which would yield approx. 5.5 litres of sample. Mr. Horner called again on Monday, July 30 to say that he checked the sampler's pull volume and was consistently getting closer to 250 ml, and had tried calibrating the volume but it did not help. When I arrived for the follow up inspection to verify the sampler setup, Mr. Horner said that he spoke with ISCO the previous day and they helped him troubleshoot the issue with the sampler volume. He said that the tubing was routed incorrectly into the sampler, so it was running in reverse (the purge cycle would pull a sample, and the sample cycle would purge water from the sample if it were high enough). He rerouted the tubing and the sampler was now correctly set at 115 ml per 113 pulses, with each pulse being 100 gallons. Aliquot volume was verified using a graduated cylinder. Mr. Horner said he had not modified the sampler tubing since he became operator in February.
