Subject: Fall,2019 Semi-annual Monitoring Report,NPDES Permit NCS000101
Dear Stormwater Section:
Enclosed are two copies of the Fall, 2019 semi-annual analytical monitoring report for.NPDES
Permit No. NCS000101,issued December 1,2014 to International Paper's Riegelwood Mill. Lab
results are included,as well as a mill stonnwater basin map. Analytical samples were collected on
July 3,•November 12,and December 23,2019. Analytical results appear in the attached data table.
During the Fall semester of 2019, weather conditions during work hours allowed collection of three
Tier 2 samples for Basin T.
Analytical. Results and Corrective Actions: Since the Spring 2019sampling events, housekeeping
has.continued in an aggressive manner in an effort to meet benchmarks in Basin.T,a Tier 2 outfall.
Basins B,E,.and I:
Sample.results for Basin B were within all benchmark values. Basins E and I had COD results just
above the benchmark of 120 mg/L: 135 and 136 mg/L,respectively. Basin E, adjacent to the wood
chip pile, last had an elevated COD result_in:2017; housekeeping will be re-emphasized in this area.
It is unusual for Basin I COD to exceed the limit, and no immediate cause was found. Basin I TSS
was also above the benchmark of l0Omg/L at 277mg/L. Semi-annual cleanouts of the two catch.
basins in Basin I will be scheduled earlier than usual.
Basin T:
Basin T remains a.Tier 2 outfall during this semester. Rainfall allowed three representative sampling
events during the semester. The July3.,2019 sample exceeded the benchmarks for COD (120 mg/L)
and TSS (100 mg/L); results were 168 and 33.6, respectively. On a 1/12119, Basin T was sampled,
and again the COD result was 168; however, all other parameters..were within the benchmarks. The.
12/23/19 sample was within benchmarks for all parameters. Since that time, the roadsides in Basin T
have been cleared of wood debris, and drainage.patterns have been re-shaped in an effort to eliminate
S/Groups/Environmental/Stormwater/Reportst2017,I8, 19:rpts/falI2019/Anal Qv!'Lir
contamination from the roadway and from the adjacent driveway, which is more heavily traveled
since traffic was rerouted for safety reasons. Iousekeeping efforts remain stringent in Basin T.
I certify, under penalty of law, that this document and all attachments were prepared under my
direction or supervision in accordance with a system designed to assure that qualified personnel
