RE: Written Response to Compliance Evaluation Inspection Report for January 10, 2020
Dear Mrs. Graznak:
On January 9, 2020, Paul DiMatteo of the Division of Water Resources (Division), Winston-
Salem regional Office met with Michael Wiseman, ORC, to conduct a Compliance Evaluation
inspection of the above referenced wastewater treatment plant.
During the inspection and noted on the Compliance Evaluation Inspection report, Mr. DiMatteo
discovered a flaw in how we were reporting Effluent pH on our DMR. Upon further review and
reexamining our current way of conducting testing on process control samples for plant
operation and after discussing the matter with Mrs. Graznak, we will be implementing the
following Plan of Action.
Plan of Action:
We will relocate the Influent Composite Sampler eight feet upstream, after grit removal and
before flow measurement. This will allow us to have a process control sample point that is not
"Influent". Also, a pre-existing sample point in the chlorine contact chamber will be utilized for
process control that is not "Effluent". By changing these two sampling points for process
control, we will be correcting the pH issue Mr. Matteo found and we are eliminating the need
for us to report hundreds of process control test results every month. DEQ will be notified
when the City of Asheboro has completed moving sample points, which is expected by late
February 2020.
