9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project site is located at 3616 Shoreline Drive, Long Beach, in Brunswick County. The lot
is 50 feet wide and approximately 125 feet in depth. The lot has been cleared and grassed, and
averages approximately 6 feet above mean sea level. There is an existing bulkhead along the
property's shoreline, and an existing pier. Waterward of the bulkhead there is a border of coastal
wetlands, predominately Smooth Salt Marsh Cordgrass (Spartina altemiflora), approximately 45
feet wide. Davis Creek averages approximately 330 feet in width, adjacent to the applicant's
property. Both the lots adjacent to this property are developed with single-family residences and
similar piers.
The Long Beach Land Use Plan classifies the Davis Creek area as Conservation and the adjacent
highground as Developed Residential. The waters of Davis Creek are classified as SA by the N.C.
Division of Water Quality. They are not designated as a Primary Nursery Area by the N.C
Division of Marine Fisheries and they are CLOSED to the harvest of shellfish.
The applicant intends to construct his private residence on the lot, following the standard CAMA
Minor Permit process through the Long Beach Local CAMA Program. In this application, the
applicant is proposing to modify the existing pier. At the waterward end of the pier the applicant
is proposing to expand the existing 10' by 10' L-head platform to 12' X 16', and add a 12' X 28'
boatlift, which includes fixed catwalks ( 3' wide) for access around the outside of the boatlift
pilings. The structure would provide docking space for up to two vessels, including the boatlift.
The total length of the structure would not exceed that of the existing pier, nor the adjacent piers.
10. ANTICIPATED EUPACTS:
The proposed project would result in the incorporation of an additional 239 square feet of
estuarine waters and public trust area, over the footprint of the existing pier.

PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant proposes to modify his existing pier by adding a boat
lift and expanding the pier's terminal platform.
Richard Benson
Page 2
Waterward of the bulkhead there is a border of coastal
wetlands, predominately Smooth Salt Marsh Cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora), approximately 45
They are not designated as a Primary Nursery Area by the N. C
10. ANTICIPATED E"PACTS:
The proposed project would result in the incorporation of an additional 239 square feet of
estuarine waters and public trust area, over the footprint of the existing pier.
