HomeMy WebLinkAbout20220104_Visibility_StudyVisibility study on Wake Stone's proposed North pit at RDU. Looking westward to the proposed east edge of the disturbance. Study was done on January 4, 2022. Study was performed by David Miller. Discussion: Upon review, questions were raised as to whether there was adequate screening on the east side of the proposed pit to avoid a visual impact to the Park. This purpose of study is resolve whether there is an issue. Procedure: 1. White pieces of cardboard that were 17" wide X 35" tall, were placed on metal rods, such that the white side of the cardboard would face to the north-north-east and towards the Park boundary. the bottom of the cardboard was touching the ground. 2. The cardboard was placed from the property line with the following spaces spacing: 92 feet, 50 feet, 50 feet, 50 feet, and 50 feet. 3. The cardboard was also placed such that first piece of cardboard was 90 feet from the shoreline and the third piece of cardboard was 88 feet from the shoreline. These distances are approximately 89 feet and 87 feet horizontally from the lake shore. 4. Photographs were then taken from the park boundary line on the opposite side of Foxcroft Lake at pond level, approximately halfway up the hill going east, and slightly below the ridge crest. I t-Ii.. Two piece of the cardboard are visible. Conclusion: As the photos show, this portion of the property consists of climax forest and there is little understory to serve as screening for the site. For this reason, there is a high probability that the disturbance and /or the effects of the disturbance will be visible from the park boundary in the winter months. The company should propose additional means to reduce visibility of the disturbance or the effect of the disturbance.
