HomeMy WebLinkAbout20211115_M-PutnamMade Putnam 357, 363 Anthony Grove Rd Crouse, NC Good Evening, My name is Macie Putnam and I'm the 41h generation of 357 and 363 Anthony Grove Rd. Piedmont lithium has already accumulated buy out contracts on the land surrounding my farm to build their processing plant. As a graduate of East Carolina University in Public Health, It is my concern for Gaston and surrounding counties on the environmental concerns due to the outcomes the mine will present. We are very blessed to have underground springs that have supplied water to our well that has serviced two houses for 70 years. In the severe drought of 2002, our neighbors had to dig new wells; however, ours did not. It has also been a water source for the livestock that is now on our farm and has been for generations. We can house 25 cows on my farm and we grow crops in the lower field and the new ground. This lower field is the bottoms and next to beaverdam creek. Beaverdam overflows several times per year with the USDA and the State of North Carolina deeming our land next to beaverdam "Highly erosable", the toxic wastethis new min will produce will be dispersed onto my land and downstream. Not counting the noise pollution, air particle matter and wildlife destruction. You cannot make more land nor water once it has been destroyed and that is what is going to happen with my farm. It is self-sufficient right now; however, once the mine Is up and running it will cause my farm to go dry and barren. There is new technologies being developed every year that will make lithium batteries obsolete for the electric car industry. Piedmont Lithium is a junior company and I would not let a "up and coming company" destroy my land and the surrounding area just for a couple decades of "lithium" Just as counterparts did with the Bessemer City mine. The United States provides only a small portion of lithium compared to other countries such as China, Australia and South America. Which already have numerous mines for extraction of minerals and lithium. National security is not in play here as our federal politicians and piedmont lithium would have you to believe. So please slow -down in giving them a permit and let the newer technologies come into play. I have a farm sanctuary to build in the few years. Thank you Ilf 1s 12-02-1
