Umstead State Park, to be operated by Wake Stone. My reasons for this request are as follows: * Wake Stone proposes to remove 59.3 acres of tree cover from the site. That's a lot, adjacent to a forested state park, particularly when one considers the cooling and noise reduction that trees provide. • The berms Wake Stone proposes to install as a buffer in replacement of said trees are of questionable adequacy, especially during the time required for said berms to vegetate. • Reedy Creek Road is popular with hikers, joggers, and cyclists. More study is needed in regard to increased noise and dust to which they would be subjected. * Wake Stone has provided no assurance that nighttime lighting won't be added. Such lighting would be detrimental to wildlife inhabiting Umstead Park. • Last but not least, there's the precedent of a similar permit having been denied in 1980. It's my understanding that reconsideration of said denial was contingent on a 50-year sunset clause. It's also my understanding that, in 2018, Wake Stone changed the wording of the agreement to allow mining for an indefinite period of time. That's unacceptable. Sincerely yours, Lyle Adley- Warrick cc: Dan Sams
