Hello Adam,
I have asked my specialists to take a closer look at the permit. There is some initial concern about
the close proximity of the project to Red Cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) nesting trees. It's possible
that timing restrictions may be needed on equipment operation during the breeding months (April -
July) or the buffer on the property line be increased from 50 ft to 150 ft. I would also like my
hydrologist to study the impact of dewatering operations on nearby lime sinks which is critical
habitat for several sensitive species. My hydrologist is currently fighting fire out west and won't
return until August 5. Thanks for the opportunity to comment. In the future, please reach out to me
directly instead of through our general inbox.
Best regards,
Ron Hudson

USFS,
The NC DEQ Mining program has received a mine permit application for a proposed mine that is
600' from the forest. N.C.G.S §74-50(b3), requires that the notice of the application be provided to
any federal or State agency that the Department determines to be appropriate.
NC Division of Parks and Recreation, has let me know that since the National Forrest is federal land,
USFS should be provided notice and the application for comment.
Please let me know who the correct contact would be to forward the application for comment.
I can be reached by email or phone for questions. My contact information is listed below.
