NCDMF has reviewed the Roberts Road Mine application, and does not have any project -
specific recommendations to provide at this time. The Newport River and Gales Creek have
been designated as Primary Nursery Areas (PNA). However, the location of the mine appears
to be far enough from the closest designated significant habitats to have minimal, if any,
impact to these areas. There is some concern, though, that the runoff from the dewatering
basin may negatively impact nearby wetlands. Considering the design elements incorporated
and the material to be mined, though, any impacts should be minimal. If there are any follow-
