Subject: Hoods Creek - request to speak Thursday, request for more information from Mining Program
Date: Tuesday, August 24, 2021 3:25:59 PM
Adam,
I got a call intended for you on the Hood Creek Soils proposal: Joyce McCormick, Caldwell County
resident, (828) 754-6034, She wanted to sign up to speak Thursday and to get
meeting information (I sent it to her by email), but also wanted to speak to mining staff on a few
items:
1) Why are they allowed to apply for a state permit when they were "denied by the county"?
2) Why no in -person meeting with masks? (I explained the department was complying with the
state EO that allows for virtual hearings)
3) Why are the people impacted not aware of this application, "especially when they were told
they would be contacted if this came up again"?
4) Why is she just hearing about this? (I explained the means we use to communicate with the
public — via the county, in local paper, social media, press release to local outlets — and said
we are always interested in learning how we can better reach the public)
For No. 1 and No. 3, 1 said I would check with Mining staff on her questions. Any guidance would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh
