My husband and I have used Umstead State Park for recreation every single day for years. In October of 2019 1 was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma, an incurable but slow growing form of lymphatic cancer. In February of 2020, my husband was diagnosed with ALK mutated lung cancer, a cancer that primarily affects non-smokers. After my husband's diagnosis we came to believe that we had been affected by the poor air quality caused by the existing quarry. We asked our doctors if that could in fact be the case, and they told us that it could, but there may be no way to know for sure. We understand that a quarry may be necessary. We are aware that the quarry operator needs to make money. But, we find it incomprehensible that a quarry would be allowed to be placed, permitted even, in a location where hundreds of people daily exercise and force air in and out of their bodies. This is a clear danger to the community. Please deny the permit to the quarry operators as I understand you are required to do. Sincerely, Annie Roux Ripoll 2014 Weston Green Loop Cary 1
