I am writing in opposition to the proposed quarry next to Umstead State Park. This mining operation will have a
significant negative impact on our air quality. PM 2.5 is a toxin adversely affecting air quality. It will also have
a negative impact on water quality, wildlife, and public health. Umstead is an important wildlife corridor. As a
publicly owned park there would be significant adverse effect on the purposes of this park, forest and recreation
area.
The mining operation also goes against DEQ's mission statement, which says that it "Provides science based
environmental stewardship for the health and prosperity of all North Carolinians."
Please do not allow this mining operation to occur! This a beautiful park and I have enjoyed many hours hiking
it's trails. Thank you for your consideration.
