Maintain the gravel pad in a condition to prevent mud or sediment from lecving the site onto the public right-of-way. This may require periodic top dressing with additional stone as conditions demand repair and/or cleanout of any measures used to trap sediment. Should mud be tracked or washed onto road, it must be removed immediately. 5. If construction on the site is such that the mud is not removed by the vehicle traveling over the stone, then the tires of the vehicle must be washed before entering the existing roadway. When necessary, wheels shall be cleaned to remove sediment prior to entrance onto public right-of-way. When washing is required, it shall be done on an area stabilized with crush stone which drains to an approved sediment trap or sediment basin. All sediment shall be prevented from entering any storm drain, ditch, or watercourse through use of sand bags, gravel, boards, or other approved methods. 6. Install silt fence or tree protection fence to ensure construction entrance is used. --------------- STANDARD CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE DETAIL , ENERGY DISSIPATION PAD DESIGN PROCEDURES FOR RIPRAP OUTLET STRUCTURES ARE PRESENTED IN APPENDIX 8.06. THE CRITERIA FOR DESIGN OF RIPRAP OUTLETS ARE: CAPACITY--10 YR. PEAK RUNOFF OR THE DESIGN DISCHARGE OF THE WATER CONVEYANCE STRUCTURE, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. TAILWATER DEPTH-- DETERMINE THE DEPTH OF TAILWATER IMMEDIATELY BELOW THE PIPE OUTLET BASED ON THE DESIGN DISCHARGE PLUS On"r CONTRIBUTING FLOWS. IF THE TAILWATER DEPTH IS LESS THAN NAF ,..E DIAMETER OF THE OUTLET PIPE AND THE RECEIVING STREAM IS SUFFICIENTLY WIDE TO ACCEPT THE DIVERGENCE OF FLOW, IT IS CLAS`.sD AS A MINIMUM TAILWATER CONDITION. IF THE TAILWATER DEPTH IS GREATER THAN HALF THE PIPE DIAMETER, IT IS CLASSED AS A MAXIMUM TAILWATER CONDITION. PIPES THAT OUTLET ONTO BROAD FLAT AREAS WITH NO DEFINED CHANNEL MAY BE ASSUMED TO HAVE A MINIMUM TAILWATER CONDITION UNLESS SITE CONDITIONS INDICATE OTHERWISE. APRON SIZE-- THE APRON LENGTH AND WiDTIH CAN BE DETERMINED ACCORDING TO THE TAILWATER CONDITION. IF THE WATER CONVEYANCE STRUCTURE DISCHARGES DIRECTLY INTO A WELL-DEFINED CHANNEL, EATENO THE APRON ACROSS THE CHANNEL BOTTOM AND UP THE CHANNEL BANKS TO AN ELEVATION OF 0.5 FT. ABOVE THE MAXIMUM TAILWATER DEPTH OR TO THE TOP OF THE BANK, WHICHEVER IS LESS (FIGURE 6.41C). THICKNESS-- MAKE THE MINIMUM THICKNESS OF RIPRAP 1.5 TIMES THE MAXIMUM STONE DIAMETER. STONE QUAUTY-- SELECT STONE FOR RIPRAP FROM FIELD STONE OR QUARRY STONE. THE STONE SHOULD BE HARD, ANGULAR, AND HIGHLY WEATHER -RESISTANT. THE SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL STONES SHOULD BE AT LEAST 2.5. FILTER --INSTALL A FILTER TO PREVENT SOIL MOVEMENT THROUGH THE OPENINGS IN THE RIPRAP. THE FILTER SHOULD CONSIST OF A GRADED GRAVEL LAYER OR A SYNTHETIC FILTER CLOTH. DESIGN FILTER BLANKETS BY THE METHOD DESCRIBED IN PRACTICE 6.15, RIPRAP. CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS 1. ENSURE THAT THE SUBGRADE FOR THE FILTER AND RIPRAP FOLLOWS THE REQUIRED LINES AND GRADES SHOWN IN THE PLAN. COMPACT ANY FILL REQUIRED IN THE SUBGRADE TO THE DENSITY OF THE SURROUNDING UNDISTURBED MATERIAL LOW AREAS IN THE SUBGRADE ON UNDISTUR®ED SOIL MAY ALSO BE FILLED BY INCREASING THE RIPRAP THICKNESS. 2. THE RIPRAP AND GRAVEL FILTER MUST CONFORM TO THE SPECIFIE® GRADING LIMITS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. 3. FILTER CLOTH, WHEN USED, MUST MEET DESIGN REQUIREMENTS ANO BE PROPERLY PROTECTED FROM PUNCHING OR TEARING DURING INSTALLAHQN, REPAIR ANY DAMAGE BY REMOVING THE RIPRAP AND PLACING ANOTHER PIECE OF FILTER CLOTH OVER THE DAMAGED AREA. ALL CONNECTING JOINTS SHOULD OVERLAP A MINIMUM OF 1 FT, IF THE DAMAGE IS EXTENSIVE, REPLACE THE ENTIRE FILTER CLOTH. 4. RIPRAP MAY BE PLACED BY EQUIPMENT, BUT TAKE CARE TO AV014 DAMAGING THE FILTER. 5. THE MINIMUM THICKNESS OF THE RIPRAP SHOULD BE 1.5 TIMES THE: MAXIMUM STONE DIAMETER. 6, RIPRAP MAY BE FIELD STONE OR ROUGH QUARRY STONE. IT SHOULD BE HARD, ANGULAR, HIGHLY -WEATHER -RESISTANT AND WELL GRADED. 7. CONSTRUCT THE APRON ON ZERO GRADE WITH NO OVERFALL AT THE END. MAKE THE TOP OF THE RIPRAP AT THE DOWNSTREAM END LEVEL WIN THE RECEIVING AREA OR SLIGHTLY BELOW IT. 8. ENSURE THAT THE APRON IS PROPERLY ALIGNED WITH THE RECEIVING STREAM AND PREFERABLY STRAIGHT THROUGHOUT ITS LENGTH. IF A CURVE IS NEEDED TO FIT SITE CONDITIONS, PLACE IT IN THE UPPER SECTION OF THE APRON. 9. IMMEDIATELY AFTER CONSTRUCTION, STABILIZE ALL DISTURBED AREAS WITH VEGETATION (PRACTICES 6.10, TEMPORARY SEEDING, AND 6.11. PERMANENT SEEDING). Stee l Posts a The steel posts shall be installed a minimum of 2-feet deep and with a maximum spacing of 3 feet. Si It Fence a SSCF sections used with silt fence in wetland areas shall be limited to i5-foot sections spaced a maximum of Zoo feet apart to allow for complete removal of sediment control stone and to minimize impacts to wetlands. • When SSCF is used in conjunction with silt fence, sediment control stone should extend (overlap silt fence) winches on either side Maintenance e Inspect the device periodically and after each significant rainfall event for damage and sediment accumulation to confirm the device is functioning properly. e At a minimum, remove sediment from the device when accumulations reach one-half the height of the sediment control stone. III Replace cr clean the sediment control stone as needed to allow water to drain through the device between rainfall events. e Rebuild andlor repair the device when it is damaged. e Repair areas where SSCF becomes undermined due to concentrated flows.
