Cole Atkins Geologist/Environmental Specialist Enclosures: as noted Knightdale Quarry Mining Permit No. 92-06 Response to ADI Letter dated January 13, 2022 1. Please clearly indicate and label on the mine map the areas utilized for plant, stockpiles, process areas, roads, boneyards, and quarry office and scales on the mine map. The current line weight and color are only indicated by label and leader line and are also similar in color and line weight to other use areas. Please consider changing the line weight, color, or dashing and adding a legend so that these areas are more easily distinguished on the mine map. To indicate land uses more clearly for affected acreages, I have added a page to the Site Plans (page 2 of 4) with areas hatched and color coded to match the land use table on each page. As a reminder, Wake Stone operates under the "blanket" bond for all North Carolina mining operations. 2. Please clearly indicate and label on the mine map the required diversion ditches for Erosion and Sediment Control (E&SC) measures. Please provide calculations for these diversion ditches. Each diversion ditch (or section) has been clearly identified and labeled on page 3 of 4 of the revised Plans. Ditch designs and calculations have been appended to the attached "Erosion Control Calculations" revised January 19, 2022. 3. Please provide construction drawings and maintenance details for all E&SC measures including but not limited to silt fence, construction entrance, stilling basins, energy dissipators, etc. Standard construction drawings and maintenance details have been added to Site Plans (page 4 of 4). 4. Please provide construction details and cross sections for proposed screening berms. Please clearly indicate and label on the mine map the location of new screening berms. Proposed berm cross section (as labeled on Site Plan, page 3 of 4) is illustrated on Site Plan Detail sheet (page 4 of 4). Typical fill slope details are also illustrated on page 4 of 4 of the revised Site Plans. 5. Affected land includes nonpublic roads. Please clarify how the access road going to the west will be permanently barricaded to prevent access from the area that is proposed to be removed from the mine permit boundary. The access road to the west (where the 38.97 acres will be removed from the mining permit boundary) was illustrated on the base map from outdated mapping. The maps have been revised to show that the road now terminates at the proposed permit boundary. This road now dead ends into a graded fill slope for the adjacent Hinton Oaks Industrial Park and is not accessible to public entry.
