My name is Ken Sawyer, I am the son in law of Linda Finley, who lives at 24 Arbor View Drive in V
Marion N.C. I am writing in regard to Waycaster Stone's application for a permit to begin mining for the
stone above my mother in law's residence. This is of a concern to me as the mining application may and
probably will, directly affect the water supply to my mother in law's home and up to 15 other residences.
—Waycaster Stone has not been a good neighbor to the neighborhood. In the past, they have mined areas
without a permit, they have damaged the Hicks Chapel Road with their heavy equipment and their road to
the mining site always has drainage of rock and dirt run off onto Hicks Chapel Road, which creates a
driving hazard as well as a hazard to pedestrians when cars drive by, from gravel being thrown from cars
driving by.
Thus, with this in mind, how is it that their application can be considered? How can you even think to
grant a permit to a company, which has already shown itself to be such a poor steward of resources, to be
allowed to mine an area near a water source? Their promise not to harm the water source is not enough.
In closing I urge you to deny this application. The safety of the water source to these 15 homes is much
more important than the defacing of the landscape of this area for stone.
