Subject: Waycaster Stone Co, Inc Mining Permit Application
To Whom It May Concern,
Daphne Burnette
391 Hicks Chapel Lp
Marion, NC 28752
September 8, 2021
The proposed mine is a threat to our private drinking water source. The natural springs are used
by several families as our only source of water. These springs are approximately 90 feet from
the proposed mine property lines. These springs have been in use for more than 55 years.
There is no public water supply for this area.
Waycaster Stone has also disregarded North Carolina's Mining Laws and Regulations. One
example is there is no warning before they pull a shot. So all of a sudden there is a loud boom
and your house shakes with no prior warning. Also, the property in question shows visible signs
of unpermitted exploration and mining operations.
The unpermitted mining has also had an impact on the runoff of rainwater onto the residential
properties located around the proposed mining area. If the mining company is not willing to
follow the guidelines for the small area they were mining to start with, it stands to reason that
they will continue on this path for a larger mining operation. The larger the area the more
sediment and water will runoff onto our properties.
Please consider all of the concerns listed above prior to granting a permit to Waycaster Stone
Co, Inc.
Sincerely,
Daphne Bumette
