To whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter to express concern about a pending mining permit. Kenneth
Waycaster of Waycaster Stone Co, Inc has applied for a new surface mining permit on a lot
that adjoins property where my family's water supply comes from. There are 3 natural
springs on the lot and these springs supply water to 12-15 families. The property line is
within 100 ft of these natural springs.
This mining group has conducted unpermitted exploration greater than 1 acre on this tract
with no regard for sediment control.
The springs have been in use for more than 50 years and a deed for the right of way, dated
1964, is recorded for the families which use the water. The deed may be found at the at
McDowell County Registry: Right to use Water Agreement recorded in Deed Book 178 at
Page 605.
It is my deep concern that if granted the mining permit, Waycaster Stone Co, Inc will
negatively impact or destroy this much -needed natural resource.
Thank you,
