the Department of Natuirall Resources liin 1981, was a use that just doesin't Ibelloing here liin this
sanctuary. The Department deinl41 was overturned Iby a liindustry frieindlly Vliinlling Commission.
The result is a quarry.
Despite the objections of the Department and the Ipubllic it was Ipeirmitted. There was oine
coin6tion... a 50 year suinset Iprovlision that required the mine to close Iby 2032 and the Ilaind
added to the Ipairk.
For 30 years Ibotlh the department and the mine accepted that agreement. Thein liin 2011, the
mine operator claimed he just "6scoveired a cleidcall error". Seems he found a old copy of the
imiinlling commissioners report that said later vs sooineir and asked that the oine word Ibe
chainged. The director of inatui4l resources Ikinew Ibetteir; James &imoins had flirsthaind
kinoWedge of the Ipeirmit and rejected this clever cleiricall argument, he ireinewed the Ipeirmit liin
2011 with sooineir, as it had always Ibeein with the suinset clause.
After he was goine, liin 2018 a inew acting director undid 37 years of the Ipeirmit and Ibouglht the
argument, wiping away the suinset clause as just a cleiricall imistake. He also approved a
chainge that gutted the Ibuffeirs protecting the creek at the same time. The chainge was
completed liin just weeks with ino notice to the Ipulbllic, or state pairks! No notice to anyone but
the mine operator. This is just flat out wiroing and ino doubt imoiney exchainged hands liin some
form or ainotheir for this to Ihave happened!
