Michaell Regain, Secretary DEQ,
l live inear IL.alke Crabtree and frequent the wallkiing and bilking tralOs around Ibotlh IL.alke
Crabtree and Uimstead Park. l aim also a chill eingllineeir. l do inot Ibellieve that a miinlling Ipeirmit
should Ibe girainted for ainotheir iroclk quarry llin Uimstead Park. As a civil eingllineeir l see firsthand
the Ipolllutlon that is created llin our inatui4l areas Iby miinlling. l hope that the DEQ does inot
allow a Ipeirmit to mine oin shaired Ipubllic Ilaind that is protected. Rlease send my Iletteir to the
DEQ.
Raleigh Duirhaim willl oinlly grow Ilairgeir llin the inext decades and every square foot of Iprlistline
hind should Ibe Iproteoted
In my work l also see firsthand the degradation of roadways due to Ilairge trucks. We have
ways of measuir9ling th6lir impact llin ESAL..s, or Equllvalleint Semi Axle IL.oads. It would take 3000
passeingeir cars to equal) the impact of oine Ilairge stoine duimp truck. This is costing the
NCIDOT, the Towns of Cary and MoririsvHHe, and the City of Raleigh moiney llin the aimouint of
paveiment repair that is ineeded each year. There is terrible road degradation oin Harrison Ave
and Weston Parkway due to these Ilairge trucks.
