Response to DEMLR Additional Information Request Appendices PIEDtA'ONT LITHIUM Appendix F: Item D.7 — Revegetation Plan APPLICATION FOR A MINING PERMIT 7. Describe your plan for revegetation or other surface treatment of the affected areas. This plan must include recommendations for year-round seeding, including the time of seeding and the amount and type of seed, fertilizer, lime and mulch per acre. The recommendations must include general seeding instructions for both permanent and temporary revegetation. Revegetation utilizing only tree plantings is not acceptable. Recommendations can be sought from: a. Authorized representatives of the local Soil and Water Conservation District; b. Authorized representatives of the NC Forest Service, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; c. Authorized county representatives of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, specialists and research faculty with the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Forest Resources at North Carolina State University; d. North Carolina licensed landscape architects; e. Private consulting foresters referred by the NC Forest Service, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; f. N.C. Erosion and Sedimentation Control Planning and Design Manual; g. N.C. Surface Mining Manual: A Guide for Permitting, Operation and Reclamation; h. Others as may be approved by the Department. LIME - RATE OF APPLICATION (tons/acre): Base application rate on soils test to be conducted by future contractor; however, in lieu of soils test apply 2,000-3,000 lbs/acre on coarse -textured soils and 4,000-6,000 tons/acre on fine -textured soils. Rate of application recommended by the NCDEQ NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual — Chapter 6. FERTILIZER - ANALYSIS AND RATE OF APPLICATION (pounds/acre): Base application rate on soils test to be conducted by future contractor; however, in lieu of soils test apply a 10-10-10 grade fertilizer at 700-1,000 lb/acre, or substitute of similar fertilizer grade and ratio. Rate of application recommended by the NCDEQ NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual — Chapter 6. SEED - TYPE(S) AND RATE(S) OF APPLICATION INCLUDING YEAR-ROUND SEEDING SCHEDULE (pounds/acre): [NOTE: Include Legumes] Seed Types: Seeding Dates: Seeding Rates: Permanent Seed NC Steep Slope Mix [ERNMX-310] Throughout 45 lbs/acre Native Habitat for Strip Mines Mix [ERNMX-I I I] Throughout 20 lbs/acre Native Steep Slope Mix with Annual Ryegrass [ERNMX-181] February 15-August 15 60 lbs/acre Native Steep Slope Mix with Grain Rye [ERNMX-181-2] August 15-February 15 75 lbs/acre Temporary Cover Seed Browntop millet February 15-August 15 10 lbs/acre Annual rye grain August 15-February 15 30 lbs/acre o NC Steep Slope Mix [ERNMX-310] is a steep slope mix for the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions of NC. This pollinator - friendly mix provides food and cover for wildlife. This seed mix can be purchased from ERNST Seeds. o Native Habitat for Strip Mines Mix [ERNMX-1111 is an erosion control and revegetation mix. It's a permanent meadow mix for wildlife cover and pollinator habitat on disturbed sites. This seed mix can be purchased from ERNST Seeds. o Native Steep Slope Mix with Grain Rye [ERNMX-181] is a steep slope mix. The native grass and forb species tolerate poor soils typically found on steep slopes in the eastern United States. Includes ticktrefoils (Desmodium spp.) and partridge peas (Chamaecrista spp.), both of which are leguminous species. This seed mix can be purchased from ERNST Seeds. -1- APPLICATION FOR A MINING PERMIT o Native Steep Slope Mix with Grain Rye [ERNMX-181-21 is a steep slope mix. Use this seed mix with grain rye as a cover crop. Includes ticktrefoils (Desmodium spp.) and partridge peas (Chamaecrista spp.), both of which are leguminous species. This seed mix can be purchased from ERNST Seeds. MULCH - TYPE AND RATE OF APPLICATION (pounds/acre) AND METHOD OF ANCHORING: Application rates of wheat straw shall be 4,000 lbs/acre. On less than 3:1 slopes, tack is not required. On slopes 3:1 or greater, tack anchoring is required. Rate of application recommended by the NCDEQ NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual — Chapter 6. OTHER VEGETATIVE COVERS — TYPE (S) AND RATE (S) OF APPLICATION INCLUDING SEEDING SCHEDULE (pounds/acre, trees/acre, spacing of trees/shrubs, etc): During reclamation, a native pollinator mix can be utilized from ERNST Seeds utilizing the recommended rate for that particular seed mix.
