McCullough <deeclectic1 @gmail.com> Sent: Friday, July 17, 2020 5:25 PM To: NCMiningProgram Subject: [External] Mining Permit 92-10 Hello: Allowing this permit will truly only benefit one family and a handful of their employees (like 20 or so). NC already is eighth in the nation for rock/aggregate quarries. That's around 635 aggregate, sand and crushed stone quarries throughout the state; why is another one necessary, especially on public land? Why has no environmental impact assessment been done by RDU Authority or Wake Stone? Could it be the impact study would reveal the truth of how damaging a quarry on the Odd Fellows track will be? Allowing a permit will be ignoring six subsections of NC law designed to protect: That any requirement of this Article or any rule promulgated hereunder will be violated by the proposed operation; That the operation will have unduly adverse effects on potable groundwater supplies, wildlife, or fresh water, estuarine, or marine fisheries; That the operation will violate standards of air quality, surface water quality, or groundwater quality that have been promulgated by the Department; That the operation will constitute a direct and substantial physical hazard to public health and safety or to a neighboring dwelling house, school, church, hospital, commercial or industrial building, public road or other public property, excluding matters relating to use of a public road; That the operation will have a significantly adverse effect on the purposes of a publicly owned park, forest or recreation area; That previous experience with similar operations indicates a substantial possibility that the operation will result in substantial deposits of sediment in stream beds or lakes, landslides, or acid water pollution; [i.e.1992 landslide at Crab Tree Creek] Deny the permit and allow the public land of NC citizens to be used in perpetuity for safe and celebratory recreational use instead of decimating it for the profit of mainly just one family who already owns four other quarries.
