Subject: Steel Gray Mine; Mine Permit application information request,
Mitchell County, French Broad River Basin
Table Rock Quarries, Inc
Dear Mrs. Wehner,
Please find attached the information you requested concerning the above mine in your letter
dated August 19, 2010.
The proposed mine was originally to include portions of all the previously mine areas but has
been changed to only include the area on the south-east corner and the haul road with associated
controls. The area to the north and west at the end of the bridge will be inside the permitted area
but will be reserved for future excavations, if ever needed. The area in the middle was never
intended to be mined by Blue Ridge and was removed from the permitted area. New maps are
attached showing the omission of the center portion which has been sloped and seeded and the
north area as future excavations.
Should you have questions or need further information, Nikki Street or I can be contacted at 828-
765-1515 during normal.hpsiness hours or at 828-765-3571 (cell) anytime.
Sincerely
Freeman

Dear Mr. Andrews:
Beverly Eaves Perdue, Governor
Dee Freeman, Secretary
We have reviewed the application your company submitted for the referenced mine site.
However, the following information is needed to continue processing your application:
1. It has been determined that if you intend to include the area to be reclaimed
within the permit boundary, it must be included in the reclamation bond until it
has been permanently stabilized. You may revise the permit boundary to not
include the area at this time and revise the permit to add it into the permit
boundary once it has been stabilized. if you feel the area has been permanently
stabilized, arrange for an inspection of the area with the Asheville Regional Office
staff so it can be verified.
2. Provide acreage for the unexcavated buffer and the area to be reclaimed if it is to
be included within the permit boundary.
Please be advised that our review cannot be completed until all of the items listed
above have been fully addressed. In addition, please note the Land Quality Section may
request additional information, not included in this letter, as the mining application review
progresses.
In order to complete the processing of your application, please forward two (2) copies of
the requested information to my attention at the following address:

Comments for Steel Gray Mine - McDowell County
Judy -
The maps are adequate. Tom did send the reclamation plan information that we approved. It doesn't include a time line
like you asked for, but does cover the areas to be reclaimed. I think I sent a copy of this to the office. If not, I can forward
it by courier if you want me to.
Thanks
Shawna
