Please find enclosed a copy of the petition with the signatures of some of those opposed to this
mine. As I have mentioned before, this is a disenfranchised community. The people in this area have a
right to live on their property without worry about the effect excessive dust, silicates, blasting,
vibrations, and fly rock will pose. Just like everyone else, they want to live in a safe, healthy
environment.
Please allow them a chance to speak against this proposed mine as the citizens are the ones that
have to live with your decision.

We, the undersigned, are opposed to the establishment of an open pit mine, rock
quarry or borrow pit on the property located at 1395 Hoods Creek Road in Caldwell.,
County. As outlined in G.S. 74-51 (d) of the NC Mining Act, the Department of
Environmental Quality has authority to deny a permit. The proposed activities will have
adverse effects on wildlife and surrounding creeks, will violate standards of air quality
due to silicates and dust production and will constitute a direct and substantial physical
hazard to the public health and safety of this disenfranchised community.
