Hi Adam,
No, the minimal pumping of water should not have an adverse impact on the Jones County wells.
After talking with Tim Morton, he said he will not be withdrawing more than 100,000 gpd since the
water table is deep at the site. He said the current satellite images show that the existing pit is
already close to the proposed maximum depth of the mine (30ft BLS), and the pit is mostly dry.
According to the previous NCDOT CCPCUA permit, that borrow pit did not have to pump, and
typically NCDOT borrow pits go down to 25 ft.
Tim Morton explained to me that the pit will drain internally and the only pumping they will need to
do is to slightly deepen a small portion of the pit that they are making the infiltration basin which
should require less than 100,000 gpd to dewater.
I have put them on the CCPCUA registration mailing so they will report to us their water withdrawals
on an annual basis. I would make sure to put in the mine permit that they will not be allowed to
dewater more than 100,000 gpd until a CCPCUA water withdrawal permit is obtained. Tim Morton
did submit a permit application along with a registration form in February. The application was not
complete due to the requested daily permit amount and Section III was not filled out at all. The
application was sent back to him as incomplete.
The report that you attached shows they will dewater to 4.27 m (14 ft). I did not see in the report
the depth of the current water table. It is problematic that the report does not address this, along
with not having a map showing what area they plan to pump out along with a cone of depression
map showing the area of influence from that pumping.

appear that you would not have to dewater high volumes of water with the water table being so
