Britt Newsome 115 West Church St New London, NC 28127 Mr. Parr, I am writing on behalf of my family in opposition to the proposed upgrade to the Parker Mine request. I live within 200 yards of the proposed mine across NC 52. In our location, we already have constant noise from both the highway and Culp Lumber which is three blocks north of our house. Mr. Schad has not adequately addressed the noise from the use of crushers that I am sure will be steady versus the blasting that he says will be well controlled and sporadic. Mr. Schad has also dismissed the effect on the water supply, yet I cannot entirely understand his explanation in his editorial in the Stanly News and Press recently. How is he going to get all the water in the first place to recycle in his reclamation pond? Evaporation is surely going to cause him to need more over time. Further, there are more wells in the immediate area than when his family land was first used. Mr. Schad has repeatedly said that he only wants to use his land for his intended purpose, but he carefully avoids the recognition that circumstances have changed with growth around the area of his land. It was bad enough that it has been used as a shooting range many Saturdays. In conclusion, the Parker Mine's proximity to established, high traffic parks preclude this land to be upgraded to an active mine. Circumstances have changed around the area that will have a greater effect on the residents than in the past. I respectfully ask this decision -making body to reject this permit. Sincerely, J.
