Dear Sirs:
My name is Joseph Ferebee. My wife and I live 1.41 miles from the proposed Parker
mine site according to Google Earth. We oppose the mine permit on the following
grounds.
1. We are extremely concerned about the negative impacts of the mine on
groundwater. Our house is serviced by a ground well. We have been blessed with
excellent water for 21 years and we don't want to take a chance of damaging that with
a 450 foot deep pit nearby that will certainly be disrupting the underground aquifers.
2. Our property has Town creek running through it. We do not want that affected by
runoff from the mining operations.
3. We are concerned about the impact on threatened species in Town creek as noted
in the statement from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
4. We are against the use of explosives nearby that will at the very minimum will
disrupt the peaceful community, and at worst disrupt groundwater or potentially cause
sinkholes.
5. The proximity to 2 parks in the town of New London is another reason we oppose
the mine. Both are less than 1/2 mile from the mine site. The letter from DPR/RRS
and signed by Rashawn Cortez King stating that there are no parks within 5 miles is
either from someone who is ill-informed or an outright lie with the intentions on
ramming this permit through.
6. This mine, if allowed to proceed, may benefit a few wealthy individuals, but will
negatively impact the lives of hundreds of good people.
Sincerely,
Joseph S Ferebee Jr
