In the past years, I served on the Town of New London Board of Commissioners for 12 years. When I was on the town board, I worked very hard to plan for future growth and a healthy environment for the residence of the town. The Town of New London consists mainly of families with children and older adults. This town could be referred to as "Mayberry". It has been brought to my attention about the Parker Mine being restarted and issued permits from your office to put into operation. The impact that the issue of mining permits will be great to the people of the Town of New London. The pollutants along will destroy wells, animals, and our atmosphere. The fallout from the blasting will affect the small children as they grow up. It will impact the air to the daycare that is nearby; the two parks that the town has provided for families; the walkers that frequently stroll the town for exercise; the pollutants that will fall in our swimming poles; and most of all the tremdous noise that will be heard by everyone that lives in the town. We will, also, feel the impact of movement from the blasting. Our beautiful town that everyone has worked so hard to protect will become an unpleasant environment for the future. The property for the residence of the Town of New London has been valued at a higher rate for years, because it is appealing to others. We have four schools that are available in this area. Most of the people in Stanly County are happy to send their children to these schools. If these permits are allowed, the value of our property will certainly decline rapidly. My grandchildren live here in this town, and I want them to be able to experience the quality of life I had for the last 40 years. When I was on the New London Town Board, we discussed the Parker Mine several times. The members never realized that this property would become a major impact on the future of the town. I know that you probably are not concerned about a small town issues compared to a mining company's progress. Please consider the major impact on the health issues that this mining company would bring to the families of the Town of New London. The Town of New London residence would greatly appreciate you considering their health, quality of water, and control of environmental issue when you determine the issuance of these mining permits. Thank youfor your onsideration. C Carolyn Baucom RECEIVED JUN 0 4 2011 LAND QUALITY MINING PROGRAM Carolyn 1206 Autumnmn Ln. Ln.
