Dear Mr. Parr I am writing you on behalf of not only myself but every resident of the small town of New London, NC. I am a lifelong resident of New London and live less than 1/2 mile from the site of the Old Parker Gold Mine here in New London. I have heard through many of our town residents and have been briefed by Mr Ed Griffin, that the owner of the old mine wants to obtain a permit to open a rock quarry mine here in town. I am definitely not in favor of a huge 200 plus acre mine being operated literally a stones throw from the center of our small town. Daily blasting alone over time will cause seismic disturbances that will most likely damage many if not all of our homes and businesses. Not to mention the noise and dust from the mine work. Summer winds out of the SW will also cause the noise and dust to be even worse for the town. Our town does not need this nor do we want or desire it. This mine is just going to be too close to town. Several years ago a local gentlemen by the name of Joe Carter was planning on opening the old Barringer Gold mine near Richfield. It was much further from town than the Parker mine is to New London. He was not allowed to open the mine because of the possible seismic damage to Richfield and Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, all farther away from that mine than we are to the Parker mine. Please, I ask you and whomever else would be responsible for issuing a permit to realize what this facility would do to my lifelong home. Therefore I beg of you to deny a mining permit for this site. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my request.
