To whom concern:
I am writing in concern to the permit application made by Tim Morton Trucking, LLC for his partnership
with Trent Scott in planning a mining operation within our residential neighborhood. We have already
had a preview of what to expect from Trent Scott where he has already mined soil for the 17 By -Pass
project. My neighbors and I had invested time and money ($42,000 over seven years) into Scott Farm
Lane to have it destroyed which included filling of ditches and covering of gravel on the road with what
amounted to fill dirt. The road was left with deep puddles (pot holes) especially when it rains along with
heavy dust covering our houses and cars. There were times when it was impossible to reach highway 17
due to the heavy truck traffic.
The following are my many concerns with this next endeavor with the mining operation:
1. Environmental concerns with the potential damage to Scott's Creek as well as the Trent River
affecting the ground water and contamination with sediment.
2. The air will be polluted with dust from the mining operation and the trucking. This has been
proven to be a concern from the previous mining for the 17 By -Pass project.
3. Safety issues from the trucks causing erosion, flooding of the road, and large potholes deep
water when it rains.
4. No Screening or fencing to block the view of the operation as well as protection of the large
animal population which include bear, deer, and turkey.
S. This is a residential neighborhood where values of homes ($500,000 to $1,000,000 +) will see
their values go down making it hard to sell if and when one would attempt to sell. Jones county
will also see reduced tax revenue as well.
Look forward to a public meeting to allow all those affected including not just those within 1000 feet
but also those that live in the neighborhoods of Shady Lane, Skippers, Traverse Lane, and Scott Farm
Lane.
Sincerely
William A. Gower
