Hello Mr. Parr,
Thank you so much for your email. There were multiple blast over a long period of time. My
husband and I would comment on how it seemed to be much worst. He was more familiar
since he works rotating shifts and he's home during the day more often than I am. My normal
work hours are 9-5, so I would be home outside their blasting times unless it happened on the
weekend or I was off work for vacation etc. I kept putting off complaining thinking that maybe
I was noticing it more because I am working from home due to Covid 19. When my husband
expressed his concerns as well that's when I reached out to Martin Marietta to complain. The
day I made my complaint was after the blast on Feb 4, 2021 between 12:20 & 12:30 PM. If
you're researching I would do the 30 minute window of 12:00-12:30. My concern is the
decibels if you find that the levels shouldn't cause in land or structural damage and are within
state law guidelines I will accept your findings
As I mentioned in earlier emails they( Todd Martin & the gentleman with Debirth Logic) were
very cordial and offered to come out to speak with us however, it didn't seem very smart to
ask the people we were complaining about to verify that they are within the guidelines.
Thank you,
Marilyn Butler

Subject: Blasting Complaint in Sanford
Ms. Marilyn Butler,
My name is Adam Parr and I'm with the NC DEQ Mining program. I was given your information by the Sanford Zoning
and Planning department. They mentioned that you had a complaint with blasting coming from one of the quarries in
Sanford. I will be investigating this complaint and will be requesting blasting records from the mining operation. Do you
have an exact date of the blast that caused the complaint? Approximate time would also be helpful. The Sanford
Zoning and Planning department mentioned that the information they received was that "the blasts were becoming
louder, stronger, and more frequent." This is enough to start the file, but if you have anything else you would like to add
please feel free to let me know.
I will be requesting blasting records from the mine operator for the date the complaint occurred as well as 1 blast prior
and 1 blast following the complaint. Once I have the records I will investigate to ensure they are operating within the
conditions of their permit. Once complete you will receive a mailed letter on letterhead with the results of the
investigation.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Adam Parr
