HomeMy WebLinkAboutCAS-68076_Letter_Transcription Dear Gov. Roy Cooper, My name is Ms. Sybil R. Brown. I am writing in regard to a letter speaking about the mining permit request submitted by Barnhill Contracting Company to mine clay and sand on 40?70?Acres of Land 5.5 miles northwest of Griften, North Carolina, off of Gilbert School Road. My deceased mother, Mrs. Barbara Dixon, owns land off Gilbert School Road, since the early 1980s. Furthermore, she worked many long hours, years and very hard to purchase this land so she could provide a safe loving and healthy place for her family to live. This mining of clay and sand could be a threat to the lives and health of the people in the neighborhood and surrounding communities. Mauls (?),trees, and topsoil are scraped away from the mining area and destroys wildlife habitats and landscapes—We want to protect human health and safeguard the natural resources. Clay minerals(?)can cause diverse pathologies such as cancer, mesothelioma, and pneumoconiosis. The health and safety of the people in the community and surrounding neighborhood is at stake— there is a possibility of toxic fumes, birth defects, cancer and respiratory illness to future generations. Making money at the exposures and cost of the lives of the people in the community and nearby neighborhood si not the right thing to do.Another location needs to be re-examined and explored. Thank you in advance for your time and immediate attention on this matter. Sincerely, Sybil Brown
