Proposed Speight Pit
Lenoir County
Dear Mr. Parr,
The following addresses the comments in your letter dated May 6, 2024.
1. The O&M plan is stated on the revised mine map. Impacts to the adjacent wetlands are
not expected. The adjacent wetlands will be routinely inspected for any impacts. Any
impact(s) will be addressed immediately. Water withdrawals and water levels at the
excavation area will be reported per the CCPCUA permit.
2. Mr. Ely Perry has confirmed there are no private drinking wells within 500' of the mine
excavation.
3. The map has been revised to show the 75' area between the excavation areas. This 75'
area will be the last area excavated. Pumping will cease at this stage. Excavation will
start on one end of the 75' area and work out towards the opposite end. Excavation will
go down to just above the water table, then the excavator will reach down from there
below the water table. This part of the operation will be wet-mined.
Two copies of the revised map and additional information are enclosed. If you have any
questions or need additional information, do not hesitate to contact me at (252) 258-4037.
Sincerely,
H44C K. F..r. WA404
