Dear Mr. Proctor:
An inspection was made of the above mine on June 4, 2024, in accordance with G.S. §74-56 of the Mining Act of
1971.
The inspection revealed that although mining has ceased at the areas identified on the map,the site has not been
adequately graded and seeded and there is insufficient groundcover established,to date. In addition,the lake
areas have not been excavated and graded to maintain a minimum water depth of four feet. Thus,the Department
cannot release the requested areas site at this time.
Please continue to monitor the site and provide proper maintenance, as needed,to ensure that a vegetative
groundcover is permanently established. Once the vegetation is established,please contact Mr. Sharan Chawla of
our Raleigh Regional Office at(919) 791-4305, or me to schedule an inspection for final release of this site.
