RE: Martin Marietta Kings Mountain Quarry—Mine Permit#23-02 Adi Response
Dear Mr. Parr:
This letter is providing the additional information requested in your letter and the attached
information dated July 17,2024. The following items have been addressed:
1. The line type used for the Permit Boundary does not match the line type on the legend. Please
clearly show the Permit Boundary with a line matching the legend.
a. The legend has been corrected to accurately show the permit limits.
2. The Property Lines are not clearly defined on the maps. Please clearly show the
property lines for the mine property.
a. The property lines have been revised to clearly show the adjacent
property lines.
3. It is not clear where the processing plant is moving to. This needs to be
clarified. It is assumed that it is moving to the southwestern portion of the
site.
a. Labels have been added to clarify this area. The relocated
processing plant will be located in the southwest portion of the site
with new conveyors tying back into the existing processing
equipment just south of the employee building.
4. If the processing plant is moving to the southwestern side of the site, where will
stormwater from that location discharge? To what outfall(s)?It does not appear to
drain back into the pit.
a. The runoff from this area will drain back to the existing culvert (outfall 002)
along the west side of Kings Creek. Once the future pit has been developed
in this area this runoff will drain internally to the pit.
5. How will the existing culvert in the future pit area be protected from sediment and

when will it be removed?
a. The contributing drainage area for this culvert is an existing&historic
treatment pond providing treatment for the runoff prior to discharge.
b. A rock pipe inlet protection filter berm has been added to enhance the
protection of this culvert.
c. This culvert can be removed once all runoff has been developed to drain back
internally into the pit.
6. The red lines from the existing processing plant to the presumptive new processing
plant go through a 50 foot undisturbed buffer. Clarify how this will happen and not
disturb the buffer.
a. This crossing has been designed as close to the upstream end of the roadway
culvert as possible to minimize the effects to the stream buffer. The vegetation
within the area for the arial conveyor crossing will be hand trimmed and the
support structures will be place outside the 50 ft buffer, further minimizing the
effect to the stream buffer. The conveyor will also be equipped with necessary
equipment to catch any material from the conveyor to prevent this material
from entering the stream. During the construction of the new aerial conveyor
no equipment will be placed within the stream buffer.
Z The reclamation map does not specify what will happen to the diversion berms
around the proposed berms on the NW site of the mine.
a. The proposed diversion berms which will remain and will be stabilized
directing water internally, away from the toe of the berm to prevent erosion,
to the pit.
8. The reclamation map indicates several areas will be graded to achieve "positive
drainage"—clarify to what point—for example,positive drainage to the pit/lake?
a. A note has been added to the reclamation plan to indicate the direction of the
positive flow.
9. How will the process treatment pond be reclaimed?
a. The existing internal drainage structures will be removed, and the pond will be
filled and stabilized. A note has been added to the reclamation plan.
10. Please clarify why Kings Creek only has a 25 ft buffer?
a. Historically the development adjacent to Kings Creek has been approved and
developed with a 25' buffer. The'24 modification has provided a larger buffer
(50')between the proposed development and the existing stream along the
southern section of the permit.

11. Please clarify whether there are any watersupply wells within 500 feet of the
excavation.
a. There are no water supply wells within 500 feet of the excavation limits.
