Adam:
Please see the attached inspection report and photos. It should be noted that a full inspection
of the mine was not performed. In his comments, the inspector noted that the area to be
released was formerly the location of an asphalt plant and that there are some remnants of
concrete remaining on the property. Cured concrete is typically considered inert and the
amount remaining does not appear to be excessive or present any kind of environmental or
significant safety hazard.
Presuming none of the items noted would in your opinion be a reason to deny the request for
partial release,we recommend the partial release be approved. If further discussion is
needed, please advise.

Subject: Crabtree Quarry 92-03 Request for Partial Release
Hey Bill,
I was able to do the inspection at Crabtree Quarry today for the request for partial release of a
portion of the permitted property of Heidelberg. The parcel is 11.8 acres, borders Crabtree Creek,
and across Duraleigh Road from the main mining activities. From information gathered onsite and in
the file, it appears that the parcel was never used for mining purposes. The parcel had once been
home to an asphalt plant that ceased operation apparently many decades ago. There are a lot of old
growth trees on the property and the parcel is well established with groundcover. A couple items of
note are silt fence that bordered the temporary haul road still being in place (that I requested be
removed), and chunks of concrete either partially buried or deep into the woods. According to Mary
Ann Hoerle and her predecessor, the worry about excavating the concrete is that it would disturb
the already well-established growth deep into the property. Their decision was that it remain in
place.
Let me know if you need anything else for this request.
Suspense date is 612812024.
Thanks,
Ray Powe
