Dear Mr. Denton, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you as a concerned resident of Harnett County residing on Fletcher Tutor Rd, which leads into the area affected by the proposed modification of an existing surface mining permit. Attached to this email, you will find a petition signed by members of our community, including Harnett County residents, who reside within a quarter-mile of the proposed quarry operation. While I understand that the quarry itself falls within Wake County, it is essential to recognize that the potential impacts of this modification extend beyond county lines. The residents in Harnett County are directly adjacent to this proposed operation, and any changes to it could significantly affect our community's well-being and environment. The attached petition represents the collective concerns of our community that was sent to the Army Corps of Engineers who was the first and only notification we have had to the residents of Harnett County. We kindly request that you consider the following issues and factors when evaluating the proposed quarry modification: 1. Environmental Impact: We are deeply concerned about the potential environmental consequences of the quarry modification, including impacts on water quality, air quality, noise levels, and the overall ecosystem. 2. Health and Safety: The safety and health of our residents are of utmost importance. Increased truck traffic, blasting, and other quarry-related activities could pose risks to our community members. 3. Quality of Life: The proposed modification could potentially disrupt our daily lives and quality of life, including property values and the peaceful enjoyment of our homes. 4. Water Supply: We rely on well water in this area, and any changes to the local water table could jeopardize our access to clean and safe drinking water. 5. Long-Term Implications: It is crucial to consider the long-term effects of this modification on our community, as well as the potential cumulative impacts when combined with other nearby developments. We kindly request that you thoroughly evaluate the concerns outlined in the attached petition and take them into account during the decision-making process regarding the modification of the surface mining permit. Our community's well-being and the preservation of our environment are at stake, and we believe that it is vital for all relevant stakeholders to work together to make informed decisions that prioritize the interests of residents. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we look forward to a transparent and collaborative process in addressing our concerns. Our community is extremely worried about the potential impact that this expansion could have on our daily lives and our environment. One of our biggest concerns is the impact on traffic. With the increased activity associated with the quarry expansion, we are worried that there will be a significant increase in the volume of heavy truck traffic on Fletcher Tutor Road. This increase in traffic poses a significant safety risk to the community. Many of the residents on Fletcher Tutor are families with young children, and the road is routinely used by pedestrians, cyclists, and school buses. The addition of heavy truck traffic could result in dangerous situations for all involved. Our community is also concerned about the environmental impacts of the quarry expansion. The heavy machinery and dust generated by the quarry can negatively impact the air quality, and there is the potential for hazardous chemicals to enter the water supply. Additionally, the expansion could disrupt the habitat of local plant and wildlife species. Property damage and the potential impact on property values are also a significant concern. Vibrations and blasting associated with the quarry can cause damage to nearby homes and structures. The potential for property damage and devaluation of our properties is alarming for our community. Lastly, we strongly oppose any attempt to use Fletcher Tutor Road as an entry or exit to the quarry facility. The road is already in poor condition, and the increased traffic associated with the quarry would cause further damage and make traveling on the road even more dangerous. The residential nature of the road makes it unsuited for heavy truck traffic, and we do not want our community to bear the burden of the quarry expansion. We respectfully ask that you reconsider the proposed expansion of the Fuquay Quarry and consider alternative locations or solutions to the issues you are trying to address. The effects of such an expansion on the Fletcher Tutor Road community cannot be ignored, and our community is united in opposing these changes. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, David Sears 919-278-8056 z PETITION TO Stop Entry and Exit by Fuquay Quarry on Fletcher Tutor Rd Subject Matter. Regarding PUBLIC NOTICE Corps Action ID Number: SAW-2023-00252 The residents of Fletcher Tutor Rd are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of our community. Our street is located in a highly residential area, filled with families, children, and beloved pets. Unfortunately, we are currently facing a significant issue that threatens the tranquility and security of our neighborhood - an influx of dump truck traffic. The constant entry and exit of these heavy vehicles pose serious risks to our community members. The noise pollution alone disrupts the peaceful atmosphere we cherish, but it's the safety hazards that truly worry us. With kids playing outside and pets roaming freely, it's only a matter of time before an accident occurs due to these massive trucks maneuvering through our narrow streets. Moreover, this excessive truck traffic has already started to take its toll on our property values. Potential buyers are deterred by the constant noise disturbance and potential dangers associated with living in close proximity to such heavy machinery. We fear that if this issue persists unchecked, property values will continue to decline rapidly. Furthermore, it is important to note that the existing quarry near our neighborhood has already caused damage to several home foundations. Adding an entry and exit point for dump trucks on our street would require widening it significantly- a move that would undoubtedly encroach upon private properties along its path. We believe it is crucial for local authorities to acknowledge these concerns before irreversible damage occurs within our community. By signing this petition, we urge them to take immediate action in preventing dump truck traffic from entering or exiting through our street. Together as residents who care deeply about preserving the safety and value of our homes, let us make ourselves heard!
