Dear Mr. Phillips,
Thank you for sending the public notice concerning the expansion of Fuquay Quarry in Holly Springs,
NC that we received on August 15, 2023. We are writing to express our concerns. We bought land
and built our home on Fletcher Tutor/Tutor Stephens Rd. in 1969, started our family, and have
remained at the same location. The existing quarry began several years back and we did not know
that we would be affected at that time. However, we are now approximately% mile from it and we
have many concerns due to worsening conditions and activities. And now, we find out about a
proposed new expansion of existing site. We are completely devastated over the possible harmful,
hazardous, and undesirable/unacceptable conditions that we could be faced with. We are listing
some of our concerns below.
1. We are on well water and we are concerned about our supply being low or being
contaminated.
2. The air quality could be drastically reduced due to hazardous small dust particles.
3. Our gardens (part of our food supply) could be affected.
4. We would have to give up more land due to road widening and we have already lost some
when the road was paved.
5. With heavy trucks and equipment going up and down our road, we would not feel safe to
walk( which our doctors have ordered for both of us due to health issues) and we have been
doing so for about 15 years.
6. Part of our land is already wetland and this could cause more or even flooding.
7. The value of our property would be drastically reduced and it would be impossible to sell if we
wanted to do that.
8. The fish and wildlife would be greatly affected by noise, no place to go, and possible harmful
food.
We are definitely against the new proposed expansion due to our needs and welfare. We
respectfully ask for your consideration and understanding when making the decision concerning the
Fuquay Quarry.
