Re: 421 Quarry
Mine Permit Modification
Removal of Polishing Basin
Dear Mr. Parr;
Please find enclosed 2 copies of the revised plans, one original and one copy of the mine permit
application and a review check for$750.00. A digital copy of the cover letter, application and
plans is included on the attached USB thumb drive. The following revisions were made to the
plans:
• The polishing pond that was located at the discharge point for the pit pump discharge line
has been removed. The water from the pit will be discharged to the receiving stream
following the permit conditions included in the industrial stormwater NPDES permit for
the site. The pit water quality will be monitored to ensure that the water quality is
acceptable prior to discharge. If the pit water quality does not meet the standards for
discharge, the water will be held in the pit until sufficient settling has occurred or the
water will be treated with approved polymer flocculants to meet the minimum standards
for discharge.
• The pit discharge line outfall has been shifted to the original location for the polishing
pond discharge.
• The affected area chart has been revised to remove the skimmer basin from the pond area
and the disturbed area has been added to the processing and haul road area. The revisions
will not require the disturbance of any additional area.
The following changes from the previous mine permit application have been made:
• Page 2—An X was placed in the No Box for the question if the modification involves
acreage outside of the previously approved permitted boundary.
• Page 4—The chart was adjusted the chart to remove 0.2 acres from the setting pond line
and added it to the Process Area/Haul Roads.
• Page 7,Added the text"Varies, depends on site conditions"to the estimated withdrawal
rate. The withdrawal rate is going to be based on the rainfall that occurs onsite rather
than infiltration of groundwater into the pit. There is very little area outside of the quarry
