RE: Tick Bite Mine
Lenoir County
Neuse River Basin
Dear Mr. Valentine:
We have reviewed the application your company submitted for the referenced mine site. In order for this office to
complete its review of the referenced project in accordance with N.C.G.S. §74-50 and§74-51 of the Mining Act of
1971,please provide the additional or revised information in accordance with the following comments:
1. Please see the enclosed comments by the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources(DNCR). The
proposed mine site contains several geographical features such as high ground adjacent to marsh,
creeks, and rivers that suggest the probability of archaeological and potential historic sites. Please
provide a comprehensive archaeological survey to identify any potential archaeological sites and make
recommendations regarding their eligibility status in terms of the National Register of Historic Places
(NRHP). This work should be conducted by an experienced archaeologist who meets the Secretary of
the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards.
2. There is a blue line stream north of EX. Pit #2 and EX. Pit #3 that is very near the proximity of the
newly proposed Pit#2 that is not shown on the mine maps. Please clearly indicate and label on the mine
map all streams.
Please note, this office may request additional information not included in this letter, as the mining application
review progresses. Be advised that our review cannot be completed until all of the items listed above have been
fully addressed.
