CAMA Permit extension for Carova Beach Park Bulkhead Repair (GP#
Mr. Scheller,
Hope this finds you doing well.
The Director of the Division of Coastal Management (DCM) has reviewed your request to delay the
renewal date of CAMA General Permit No. 76953-A determination for eligibility under the Covid-related
regulatory relief provisions in accordance with S.L. 2020-3 Section 4.38.
In this case, your request to delay the renewal date of CAMA General Permit No. 76953-A (the Permit),
issued to Currituck County on 06/26/2020 and with an expiration date of 09/17/2020 for a replacement
bulkhead and deck, has been authorized by the Director of DCM upon recommendation from the DCM
staff. The extension is granted until October 29, 2020 in which all work must be complete. No other
authorizations or changes in the Permit are authorized. All terms and conditions of the permit are still
withstanding. Any other proposed work or development in any Area of Environmental Concern shall
require a review by the DCM staff prior to work commencing. Please append this correspondence as
official documentation to the Permit.

Robert,
To answer your 2"d question first, the contractor has to be done by 10/12/20 per their contract so we won't be going to
far past the permit expiration date.
Some of the reasons were that for the VL month or two, we were not working at the office. The county closed the
bridge to outsiders. In addition, Currituck County representatives were also working remotely. That caused delays with
setting up meetings, etc. I think for the first month, everyone was just real nervous of what was going on. Once things
got going again, everyone re -grouped and got the project back moving in the right direction. Then the biggest problem
was Currituck County was trying to figure out what FEMA would pay for as there were multiple options on repair or total
reconstruction. It took a few months to get the final scope pinned down.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Bob Scheller, P.E.
