We have the following objections to solid bulkheads ( retaining wall ): Hardened structure material such as arsenic and salt treated wood can be hazardous to aquatic and wildlife. Bulkheads frequently cause or increase erosion to non -hardened shorelines. Studies show definite decreases in juvenile fish caused by reduction in spawning grounds and loss of habitat. A hardened structure will increase wake action along the narrow creek cutting into the marsh grasses and reducing the habitat and nesting areas for numerous species of birds, mammals, and reptiles, to include Clapper rails, red wing blackbirds, kingfishers, alligators, otters,and foxes. Additionally, reference Division of Coastal Management Adjacent Riparian Property Owner Notification / Waiver Form (Enclosure 2 ) we do not wish to waive the 15' setback requirement.
