This correspondence is in reference to your 23 April 1996 letter objecting to the proposed 134'
long pier with a 16' by 16' gazebo onsite lot #5, now owned by Larry lhle, in the Pamlico Shores
Subdivision on Ocracoke Island, adjacent Pamlico Sound in Hyde County, North Carolina.
I have reviewed the project proposal and your objections and offer the following comments: This
Division had a different interruption of the extension of riparian property lines thus resulting in a further
restriction in the area available for construction. Consequently we permitted Mr. Ihle a 65' long pier
with a gazebo, or sitting area, at the landward end adjacent the bulkhead. All development permitted is
within the required 15' setback off of riparian line extensions (see attached permit). I conclude there
would be no substantive reason for disallowing this simple pier for access.
If you wish to challenge my granting of the permit, you may file a third party hearing request
with the Chairman of the Coastal Resources Commission as provided in General Statute 113A-121.1(b)
within 20 days of the permit decision. Please contact me if you need the appropriate forms.
