Dear Mr. & Mrs. Ewen:
I have reviewed the information submitted to this office concerning the filing of an application for a minor
development permit under the Coastal Area Management Act. After making a site inspection on 2/23124,
1 have determined that the activity you propose is exempt from needing a minor development permit as
long as it remains consistent with your site drawing dated 2/13/24, and meets the conditions specified
below. If your plans should change and your project will no longer meet these conditions, please contact
me before proceeding.
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR — [16A NCAC 7K .0103(c)]: Redistribution of sand that results from storm
overwash or aeolian transport around buildings, pools, roads, parking areas and associated structures is
considered maintenance so long as the sand remains within the Ocean Hazard AEC.
1. The project consists of removing excess sand from a perimeter of 8' around the existing
house and redistributed on the northern portion of the parcel;
2. This exemption allows for relocated sand to be used in the repair of storm damaged dunes;
3. Existing primary and frontal dunes shall not be broadened or extended in an oceanward
direction beyond pre -storm dimensions;
4. Redistribution of sand shall be accomplished in such a manner that damage to existing
vegetation is minimized;
5. Accumulated sand containing storm debris shall be sifted or have all debris removed prior to
redistribution within an Area of Environmental Concern;
If your plans should change and your project will no longer meet these conditions, please contact me
before proceeding. This exemption to CAMA permit requirements does not alleviate the necessity of your
obtaining any other State, Federal or Local authorization. This exemption expires 90 days from the date
of thebeller.
