SPECIFICATIONS:
Scope of Work:
1. Furnish and install floating docks and fixed pier as described in the drawings.
2. Work shall include permits, materials, labor and services as necessary to complete
the Work.
3. Remove and dispose of waste materials including existing pier piling not to be reused
and other framing materials now existing on the site.
Materials: ( Brackets etc. as sold by Craft Hardware)
01. Bolts, washers, plates, cables, cable connectors, tumbuckles, brackets and other
hardware not designated otherwise shall be hot dipped galvanized steel.
02. Lumber shall be Alb retention CCA treated Southern Yellow Pine.
03. Piling shall be 2.51b retention CCA treated Southern Yellow Pine.
04. Styrofoam floatation billets shall be 1lb/cu. ft. density EPS.
05. Billet wrap shall be 6% filter cloth.
06. Nails shall be Annular Ring Type 316 Stainless Steel in sizes as indicated.
07. Screws shall be Type 316 Stainless Steel in sizes as indicated.
08. Dock bumper strips shall be Salisbury white Salcor #500 as sold by Defender Marine
(860-701-3400) or 1"x3" Puritan as sold by Craft Hardware.
09. Cleats shall be 10 inch black nylon as sold by Craft Hardware.
10. Piling caps shall be white PVC in conical design as sold by West Marine or Craft
Hardware in sizes to fit existing piling.
Workmanship:
01. Verify all existing dimensions before beginning the Work.
02. Check all pilings for deterioration. Pilings will be replaced on a cost basis as stated in
the Proposal as a unit price.
03. Reseat any piling which after checking were lifted during the storm.
04. Cut all pilings to the lowest existing piling height and cap as specified using 6 S.S.
roofing nails to attach.
05. Construct docks and pier as detailed with cuts being square and vertical members
installed plumb.
06. Round over (5/16"R.) all edges of lumber members exposed to view and as follows:
a. Decking edges and ends.
b. Band edges and ends.
c. Handrail edges and ends.
07. Pre -bore bolt holes with bit diameter 1/16" larger than bolt diameter.
08. Nailing:
a. 2x8 joists to bands; 3#15P A.R. thru band to each joist.
b. 2x4 floatation puriins; 2#10P A.R. thru to each joist.
c. 2xl2 bands to 2x8 bands and joists; 2#10P A.R. @ 12" o/c, 1 1/2' from top &
bottom edges.
d. 2x12 bands to each other; 2#16P A.R. (9 16" o/c 2" from top & bottom edges.
e. Decking to joists; 2#10P A.R. to each joist. Nails at ends shall be started 1
1/2" from ends, angled approx. 30 deg., and driven into joist to avoid splitting
decking..
f. 3/4" thick handrail members; #6P siding nails at 8" o/c.
09. Fully wrap each billet with filter cloth, neatly folding ends, and fasten along top seam
with SS nails.
10. Floatation billets shall be continuous, one piece units for each dock section length.
11. Decking shall be spaced apart 1410P nail diameter. Where decking lays out such
that the last piece in a nun is less than 2" in width, use a 2x8.
12. Decking over ends of dock sections, over piling hoop bolts and 1 board @ 48" shall
be removable using 3 1/4" #10 F.H. screws with square drive bit recess,
