As is required by the Department of Army individual Permit #SAW-2011-101241, Special Condition #13, one (1) sediment sample was to be collected by Coastal Protection Engineering of North Carolina, Inc. (CPE) each morning that sand was being placed within the fillet (between Station -1+66 and Station 10+00). Sand samples were collected between February 10 and Feb 17 when material was placed between Stations 2+00 and 10+00. The results of those sediment samples were sent to you on February 28. Between March 10 and March 12, material was placed between Station -1+66 and 2+00. During this time, three (3) additional sediment samples were collected. Sediment samples were processed for sediment grain size, silt %, and calcium carbonate %. The results of this analysis are provided below. Sampling locations were dependent on the location of the active outfall pipe each morning. Station locations and coordinates (latitude, longitude) for each sample are presented in Table 1. Sampling locations are also shown in Figure 1. Mean grain size ranged from 0.28 to 0.36mm. Percent fines ranged from 0.42 to 0.73%. Percent calcium carbonate content ranged from 5 to 6%. A summary of results (mean grain size, % fines, % calcium carbonate, and Munsell colors) for each sample are presented in Table 2. Individual granularmetric reports and grain size distribution curves/histograms for each sample are provided in Appendix 1 and Appendix 2, respectively. Table 1.
