As is required by the Department of Army individual Permit #SAW-2011-101241, Special Condition #13, one (1) sediment sample was collected by Coastal Protection Engineering of North Carolina, Inc. (CPE) representatives each morning that sand was being placed onto the beach between Station 0+00 and Station 10+00. Between February 10 and February 17, material was placed between Station 2+00 and 10+00. During that time, a total of eight (8) samples were collected. Sediment samples were processed for sediment grain size, silt %, and calcium carbonate %. Upon completion of the CSRM project, NDC will return to place material within the outstanding portion of the terminal groin fillet (from the location of the groin at Station -1+66 to Station 2+00). CPE representatives will resume collecting sediment samples within this remaining portion of the fillet at that time. Sampling locations were dependent on the location of the active outfall pipe each morning. Station locations and coordinates (latitude, longitude) for each sample are presented in Table 1. Sampling locations are also shown in Figure 1. Mean grain size ranged from 0.27 to 0.45mm. Percent fines ranged from 0.57 to 1.04%. Percent calcium carbonate content ranged from 4 to 7%. A summary of results (mean grain size, % fines, % calcium carbonate, and Munsell colors) for each sample are presented in Table 2. Individual granularmetric reports and grain size distribution curves/histograms for each sample are provided in Appendix 1 and Appendix 2, respectively. Table 1.
