Detailed Observations:
1. Armor stone (Size A) installation operations were being conducted today on the terminal groin. Sixteen (16)
marine mattresses were installed today between Sta. 8+40 to Sta. 8+60. CDC was observed placing stone on top
of marine mattresses between Sta. 8+20 and Sta. 8+60.
2. Armor stones (Size A) were observed being delivered to the project site via flatbed tractor trailer from the
Rockingham Vulcan quarry. All stones appeared to be within the size range for the Size A stone (See Photo #3).
3. Construction signs were observed in place and fencing was observed around the 4th Street and Shallotte Blvd
staging and laydown areas.
4. No work was observed at the Shallotte Blvd staging area. Signs and barricades were observed in place.
Items Discussed with Contractor's Superintendent, Surveyor, Regulatory Agencies, ... etc.:
Richard Dove (Mclean) and Keith Christiansen (McLean) met with Jim Gunn (CDC) and Adam Priest (CPE) today to
observe the project site and discuss the setup of the sheet pile installation. It was mentioned that the sheet pile
installation operations were anticipated to begin at the end of February 2022. The group also discussed forming
of the concrete cap, the USACE dredging project and pipe placement, the concrete cap transition from EL +4.9 ft
to EL +4.5 ft, and protecting the seaward end of the sheet pile installation in case of high water during the
installation of the concrete cap. Keith mentioned that he anticipated a production rate of 30 ft per day during the
sheet pile installation.
2. Richard Mattingly (CDC) informed Adam Priest (CPE) that approximately 15 members of the USACE were on -site
around 4:30 pm to observe the terminal groin project and visited the north end of Shallotte Blvd.
