The dredge Charleston was operational today (2/18) and was observed dredging within Shallotte Inlet along the western side of the inlet (near Ocean Isle Beach). At 9:30 am, one (1) seaward outfall was located near Sta. 10+50 and one (1) landward outfall was located near Sta. 11+50. Sand was being pumped through the landward outfall at the time of observation. 2. The on -site representative observed the shore pipeline for leaks where it came ashore from the dredge running west across the east end spit along the shoreline to the beach disposal area. No leaks were observed. 3. The on -site observer observed the landward outfall pipe segment separate from the pipeline and the NDC crew re -attach it with heavy machinery. While they were reattaching it, the discharge was re-routed to the seaward outfall. 4. Escarpments were observed along the seaward edge of the fill in proximity to Sta. 2+00 to 4+50. (See Photo #5). 5. Large waves and the rough sea were observed offshore of the project area. 6. Surveyors from TI Coastal were observed in the project area at 10:00 am.
