Subject: Request for a CAMA General Permit Renewal/Modification for culvert replacement on
US 158 in Nags Head, Dare County. WBS # 2024CPT.01.01.10281.1
Dear Mr. Daisey,
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the modification of a GP
.2300 permit for the replacement of a culvert on US 158 in Nags Head, Dare County. The culvert
is located approximately 0.2 mi. north of Virginia Dare Trail on an unnamed tributary to the
Roanoke Sound. The existing culvert was mistakenly reported as a 42" X 215' CMP with
headwalls, however further investigation this week found the existing culvert is elliptical and a
29" X 42" X 215' CMP. Due to the smaller existing pipe diameter, NCDOT proposes replacing
this pipe with a 42" X 215' CAP with headwalls on the existing alignment. In addition, to
facilitate the replacement of such a long structure on this primary route, an intermediate headwall
would be installed in the roadway. The revisions to this project will not result in any additional
wetland or stream impacts. All as shown on the attached revised drawings.
This culvert replacement was permitted back in 2019 under GP No. 72662, but a funding
shortfall delayed the project. This was also permitted again 8/10/2023 under GP No. 89917 but
expired on 12/8/2023 due to the abbreviated GP expiration dates that came into effect last year.
NCDOT also requests reissuance of this GP .2300 with a new expiration date.
Included with this letter are the revised location map and revised permit drawings. If you

the current year.
